a tasty fisk
Not to be confused with a tasty fish. This is from Nigel Slater's Nordic recipes and is a fitting meal for such a chilly day (though the snow's all gone now). Also, it uses half a litre of double cream, which is always a bonus. The haddock is quite an attractive fish and is also universally acknowledged as the best fish to batter and serve with chips. This is true. The bacon was collected on a street corner in Notting Hill from a shady Dealer in Meat and Other Vittles. The potatoes have been in the cupboard since last week.
This meal forms an integral part of my training for the Lausanne 20k and will give me the edge over those Swiss types, who have to subsist on filets de perche, which although a delicious fish in their own right are a wispy, ephemeral creature unlikely to put hairs on your chest, a print in your step, a bee in your bonnet and the other up the chimney.
The other essential element of this evening's training is the isotonic energy drink beloved of athletes the world over, viz. beer. I've opened the bidding with a bottle of Adnam's Broadside and I look forward to seeing where the tall ship on the front takes me from there.
