The obesity crisis
There's pictures of what was for tea on the twitter feed (@whatwasfortea). I've deleted them from my phone and my memory. Today's tea was an illustration of the thin line between success and failure. It was a steak and kidney pudding, from Len Deighton's Action Cook Book. And it was just far, far too stodgy. Even the water I steamed it in had a layer of fat on top by the end. It was so nearly great. The suet crust looked ace when I took it out of the bowl. But having eaten a big lump of it, I feel sick as a dog. And to my shame I've thrown the rest away... Time for a cup of mint tea and some reflection on a) how tastes have changed since the mid-20th century and b) what a big girl's blouse I am.
